how to cheer the Windrush boys
that left paradise for the gloom
took up the spade and shovel
the dustpan and the broom
that cleaned the filth of London town
treated like the foulest smell
and yet in the poverty of down trodden
in quiet dignity did dwell
threatened with deportation
no help when sickness fell
evicted and unemployed
for a policy straight from hell
Now that black lives matter
there is marching in the square
with the face mask and rubber gloves
protesters say they care
but the Windrush boys are silent
they don't know what to say
in a country so unwelcoming
they no longer want to stay
