Between lamming time and harvest
is the time for things to grow
slugs and snails pig out on things
planted in a row
the grass is reaching for the sky
and more growing left to do
the mower is in for repair
next to last in queue
the goats are out and munching
getting fatter by the hour
collect every parasite
from liver fluke to scour
the bank manager calls on the phone
the overdraft must be paid
so just like the summer sunshine
self-sufficiency dreams soon fade
