collateral damage

what a year for death
all those celebrities
all those political leaders
lacking integrity
all the grand and famous
that lifestyle and the fame
indulgences and the drugs
which never get the blame

there are many unknown deaths
so many without a name
that didn't cause a war
but caught up in some game
they died in ocean crossings
they died in targeted raids
in bombing runs, terror attacks
and behind the barricades

what shall we call the unknown
that no one will mourn
what will we call the children
and in womb not been born
with all our expressive words
surely we can manage
to name these innocent victims
that are called collateral damage
