a plumber

I turned on the tap
I couldn't get a drip
how will I survive
without coffee I can sip

So I found the phone book
as advised to do
to try and find a plumber
the nearest one to you
Then I called a plumber
fifty of them in all
at last I found a plumber
that would return my call

I'm busy at the moment
with a customer who'll pay
I may be an hour or two
but will get to you today
next morning I phoned again
it didn't seem much use
he said he could come today
but had a new excuse

I went round to the neighbors
I've water buckets in the hall
tried to phone more plumbers
but had no luck at all
next I phoned that plumber again
it went on for a week
sometimes I got the answer phone
sometimes he would speak
each time a brand new excuse
and a promise to attend
no matter how many messages
or pleadings that I send

at last there was a ray of light
in proceedings grey
for it was raining cats and dogs
there would be no golf today
he stood there with a mobile phone
no tools to do repair
he said he found a flood outside
was the Water Board aware
I would need a builder to dig a hole
it could take a week
so let him know when it was done
so he could fix the leak.
